Understanding the sports habits of the school population has become essential for guiding policies to promote physical activity in Catalonia. The previous edition (2016) showed high sports participation, but also identified differences between boys and girls and a decline in participation during adolescence. How have these habits evolved and what new challenges have emerged since then? The new edition has been developed to update this snapshot and generate useful knowledge to promote a more active school population. We are now awaiting its publication so we can share the results with you!
To address this challenge, a proprietary methodology was applied that ensured the representativeness of the sample and efficient use of resources. At itik consultoria, we have developed several editions of the Sports Habits Study of the School Population of Catalonia, including the new edition, which is pending publication. The information collection instruments, fieldwork, and analysis criteria have been defined. The factors that influence physical and sports practice (gender, age, frequency of practice, and reasons for dropping out) have also been studied. This process has allowed for the creation of a solid foundation for analyzing the evolution of habits, guiding school sports policies, and designing initiatives tailored to the needs of children and young people in Catalonia.
