The concept phase is the first of the four blocks that make up the twelve stages in the life cycle of a sports facility. This phase includes analysing needs, defining the most appropriate type of facility or intervention, and preparing the feasibility study.
Before building, refurbishing or expanding a sports facility, it is essential to analyse whether the proposed intervention meets a real need and can be carried out sustainably. A rigorous economic and financial forecast makes it possible to estimate the investment, operating costs, revenue, resources required and potential risks, as well as to compare scenarios and anticipate solutions before making a decision.
However, the feasibility of a sports facility goes beyond financial results. Its sporting, social and environmental impact must also be assessed, taking into account the objectives of the local authority or the organisation promoting the project and the needs of the population. The following document presents the three stages of the concept phase and the main factors to consider when assessing the feasibility of an intervention in a sports facility.
