The Municipality of Lo Barnechea, in Chile, launched a strategic initiative to place physical activity and sport at the heart of its urban, social and community development. In this context, the construction of two new sports facilities required a rigorous analysis to assess their feasibility and guide their future operation. The challenge was to go beyond the economic perspective and incorporate a sporting and social vision. This required understanding the area, identifying each facility’s catchment area, understanding the profile of future users and defining a service offering tailored to the population’s actual needs.
At Itik Consultoria, we developed a comprehensive feasibility study for the Lo Barnechea Sports Complex and the El Huinganal Sports and Wellbeing Centre. A specific market analysis was carried out for each facility, taking into account the population’s socioeconomic characteristics, the potential audience and each sports centre’s positioning opportunities. An economic and financial study was also prepared to assess the facilities’ future operation. Different economic scenarios were projected, various management models were analysed, and the most suitable option was identified according to each centre’s particular characteristics and its feasibility for the local authority. This work provided key data to refine the sports offering, services and access models, with the aim of promoting a more active and healthier life for the community.
