The Barcelona City Council launched the Sports and Physical Activity Observatory to gather and make available to citizens and industry stakeholders the key data on the evolution of sports in the city. The challenge was to transform information from various studies and sources into an open, visual, and easy-to-navigate municipal platform. In this way, the goal was to facilitate understanding of Barcelona's sports system and to provide useful information for research, planning, and decision-making.
To build the Observatory, the most relevant data from studies and available information sources on physical activity and sport in Barcelona have been identified and selected. At Itik Consultoria, we participated in the initial definition and design of the platform, transforming the data into tables, charts, and accessible visual resources. The information has been structured into seven main areas (sports participation, driving agents, sports spaces, activities and events, sport and City Hall, the impact of sport on the city, and regulations). This process has allowed municipal sports knowledge to be organized in a single digital space, making it easier to consult and establishing a foundation for updating and analyzing the sector's evolution.
